Last night, a UCLA international student was detained by U.S. Customs and Border Protection after trying to re-enter the U.S. from Mexico. At this time, they remain in detention at the San Ysidro Port of Entry.
As far as we know and have been able to confirm: upon leaving the United States, the student was in good standing with their visa and had not had it revoked. The UCLA Dashew Center is not aware of any marks, notations, or potential charges on the student’s SEVIS record.
As of 3 PM, CBP confirmed to an inquiring attorney that the student is still being held at San Ysidro Port of Entry and has not been deported.
Since an initial phone call with another attorney, when they were forced by CBP to hang up last night, the student has not been able to contact legal support.
